Bates To Sign Up For Boro

Byline: Derek Brown

Bedworth United......................0 Nunaton Town...........................2 NUNEATON Town have agreed terms with much travelled midfielder Tom Bates for the coming Blue Square North season.

Manager Kevin Wilkin and chairman Ian Neale finally put forward a deal that the former Leamington, Atherstone and Coventry Sphinx player accepted and he will be alongside the rest of the squad once the league campaign kicks off in 12 days time at Guiseley.

However, whether impressive keeper Danny Alcock has a future at Liberty Way remains in the balance with discussions between the Tiffany And Co club and player ongoing although Alcock is expected to figure in the Boro line-up for tomorrow night's home clash with Mansfield Town.

Meanwhile on Saturday, Nuneaton beat Bedworth 2-0 at The Oval with second half goals from Aiden Moore and James Armson - but for the opening two thirds of the pre-season friendly it was the Greenbacks who were sharper and more creative.

It was only when the hosts began to tire that Boro made took control in what was an uninspiring performance that lacked the fire, power or pace for more than 70 minutes.

The Greenbacks, with outstanding skipper Jai Stanley running the show, looked the more incisive and creative than their higher league rivals in a goalless opening period during which United's petulant striker Mark Withers had a close range header ruled out for a marginal offside decision.

Stanley's influence from the Bedworth engine-room continued to perplex Boro and just past the half hour the ex-Leamington and Stafford man saw his speculative 40-yard free-kick almost catch out Alcock, who anxiously pawed the ball out of the top corner while Ryan Scott's long range snap shot grazed the bar.

It took Boro until the 40th minute before posing a real threat as Adam Walker's shot on the turn was superbly clawed into his grasp by the stretching Jack Wear, who soon after did well to turn aside Tom Berwick skidding 20-yarder.

After the interval Bedworth continued to press without penetrating a Boro back line and as the game moved on the visitors improved immensely and on 72 minutes took the lead. Eddie Nisevic's incisive speed, a rare commodity in Boro's squad, took him fortuitiously past three defenders and into the area where 深圳南山搬家公司 his cross took a deflection forcing Wear to fumble beneath his bar leaving Moore to convert from four yards.

Simion Forsdick and Rob Oddy each came close to extending the advantage before in the 90th minute Armson, who had earlier clattered a drive against a post, doubled the advantage to give Boro a win they hardly deserved.

LEAMINGTON were edged out 2-1 by a young Birmingham City outfit at the New Windmill - Robin Shroot's second-half penalty deciding the issue after Luke Corbett had balanced a Blues opener from Jay O'Shea.

The Brakes almost snatched a share when Scott Lycett was denied by a late save by impressive England youth keeper Jack Butland.

Rugby Town landed their first preseason victory when they edged out Blue Square North side Redditch 1-0 - Danny Edmund settling the issue with an admirably precise closerange finish five minutes from time - while Atherstone Town edged out Chasetown 3-2.

Battle over crocodile logo sti

HONG KONG (AP) -- A crocodile logo on polo shirts and other clothes is turning out to be as coveted as the real reptile's skin in a lawsuit being tried in Hong Kong.

The French clothing company La Chemise Lacoste, maker of the status symbol polo shirts with crocodile appliques, is fighting Hong Kong's Crocodile Garments, which has a boned corset crocodile logo that, according to Lacoste, has too close a resemblance to Lacoste's well-known beast.

Rekindling a decades-old feud, the privately held French company is asking a judge to order Crocodile to withdraw its application to register its own reptile logo as a trademark in mainland China. Lacoste also wants monetary damages that its lawyers have not specified.

Michel Lacoste, director of the company founded by his champion tennis player father, Rene Lacoste, testified Tuesday that Hong Kong- based Crocodile violated a 1980 agreement on the use of the trademark in Hong Kong and mainland China.

Known in the United States for the "alligator shirt," an icon of preppy style in its heyday, the Lacoste family company chose the reptile, which is actually a crocodile, to depict the tennis player's nickname "Le Crocodile."

Juicy television

The battle over claims to the crocodile began in the 1970s when Lacoste began distributing its shirts and other clothing in Hong Kong.

The local Crocodile company had already been in business for decades. It had originally gotten a Hong Kong trademark registration for its namesake reptile crawling out of a swamp in 1910 and began using a left-facing profile of a crocodile as a logo in the 1950s.

Replica Chronoswiss

In 1979, after Lacoste came to town, the Hong Kong company sued the French company over its use in Hong Kong of Lacoste's green, right-facing crocodile logo.

The companies settled the next year with a deal that gives Crocodile the exclusive rights in Hong Kong to use the Lacoste trademark and sell the French company's goods.

Crocodile can also sell its own crocodile goods here. But as part of the deal, Lacoste says, Hong Kong-based Crocodile cannot use a logo "confusingly similar" to Lacoste's crocodile emblem anywhere outside of Hong Kong. Lacoste insists the local crocodile logo is covered by that ban.

But the Hong Kong company, which applied in 1993 for a Chinese trademark on its own crocodile logo, says it has agreed only to refrain from using Lacoste's exact trademark outside Hong Kong.

Walkway vandals

It is annoying to think that a few idiots can hotwire a digger and in a few minutes destroy part of the new walkway. Fortunately, they only thought they could drive the digger and caught the bucket in the tracks. Even that is more cost to the New-York-Jets walkway.

This is part of a walk/cycleway that is giving pleasure to many and also may create a safe way for cyclists and pedestrians to travel. I personally use it a lot, as well as the Te Henui, etc. Where the damage occurred is not really useful to me yet. But there are many who would be able to use it, and who are probably waiting for the last yves saint laurent stretch to be finished.

The point is, how to stop this senseless behaviour? What to do with the miscreants if they are caught, which never seems to happen. They should be made to pay for the damage (unlikely as they will have no money) or fix the damage (they wouldn't have the skills, although they may learn something).

If ever anyone does see anything like that going on I suppose the only way Yves Saint Laurent Shoes would be to use the ubiquitous cellphone to ring the police. It would be unwise to try to stop it alone.

Ford goes electric with the Tr

AN electric Ford Transit Connect... now that makes some sense. The one electric vehicle that should be practical is a small delivery van.

Often Tampa Bay Rays jerseys urban operators can predict within a few miles the daily journeys and will easily be able to install overnight charging points back at base.

Ford is putting an electric Tranny Connect on sale next year. It will be followed a year later by a less-useful electric Ford Focus. A year later in 2013, Ford will launch hybrid and plug-in hybrid versions of the new C-Max.

Ford has the Max factor

TT didn't offer any additional seating capacity over the standard Ford Focus hatch and wasn't as good looking. It was, on the other hand, a fair bit pricier and it didn't feel quite as sharp to drive. Small wonder that sales were initially a little sticky. After a while word got round that the C-MAX was a car well worth having. Well stocked with practical features and riding on the next- generation Focus chassis, it may not have been quite as sporting as the old Focus hatch but it offered more for the family motorist. Here's the lowdown on used examples.

HISTORY As far as problems go, it's quite a nice one to have. So successful was the Ford Focus hatch that when it came to designing an all-new model, Ford had quite a task on their hands. Instead of trying to replicate the dynamic feel of the old car, Ford's engineers instead opted for a more grown up feel and the first cars to use the next-generation Focus chassis were the Focus C-MAX mini- MPV and the Volvo S40/V50 models, all of which nevertheless garnered critical acclaim as sweet driving cars.

The Focus C-MAX was launched in October 2003 and after a slow start, sales have picked up nicely. Euro IV versions of the diesel engines were offered alongside the non-compliant units at a premium of around Pounds 300. Towards the end of 2004 a 1.6-litre Ti-VCT petrol engine was added to the range with 115bhp it was slightly quicker, more frugal and more expensive than the existing 1.6 engine which continued to be offered. A major facelift in the spring of 2007 brought revised styling borrowed from the larger S-MAX model.

Minnesota Twins jerseys

WHAT YOU GET Think about how we use our cars for a moment. Many of us rarely even use the back seats for anything but shopping bags and jackets. If you've got a family in tow, you may well need four or even five seats but if you seriously need seven seats, it makes sense to go with the additional carrying capacity of a full sized MPV like a Ford Galaxy. Sales figures at the time of the C-MAX launch showed the Citroen Xsara Picasso - a car endowed with Nike dunks low a mere quintet of seats - residing in the number one position. Therefore it was Ford's aim to build the best and most practical five-seat mini- MPV possible that would appeal to 'real world' requirements.

With a wheelbase some 25mm longer than the Focus, the C-MAX offers a good deal of interior space, helped by a novel seating arrangement. The 'wheel at each corner' design also helps maximise interior dimensions. The styling may disappoint those expecting something as ground breaking as the Focus originally was, but having seen the Fiesta and the Fusion, it's perhaps not surprising that the C-MAX follows a similarly conservative design theme. The metallic finish around the front grille and the jewel-effect lights give the car a Mondeo-like nose, whereas the back end looks distinctly Fiesta. If you'd have sketched a Ford mini-MPV before you'd even seen the C-MAX, you would probably have been pretty near the mark. Still, this is a market where conservatism tends to pay off.

If the exterior may be a little under-whelming, the C-MAX more than makes up for it with the ideas factory that is the cabin. Although it's unlikely to be available on entry-level versions, Ford's rear seat flexibility system really is the ace in the C-MAX hole. A 40-20-40 tip and tumble rear seat sees the centre section flip rearwards into the luggage compartment, leaving the remaining two seats to slide diagonally along a runner towards the centre of the car, giving unprecedented levels of space for four.

WHAT YOU PAY Buyers seem rather contented with their C-MAX
